EFT for Morning Anxiety: A Gentle Tapping Practice to Start Your Day
Share
For many people, anxiety doesn’t wait until the middle of the day.
It shows up first thing in the morning.
You wake up and before your feet even touch the floor, your mind is already racing. Thoughts about everything you need to do, problems you haven’t solved yet, or worries about the day ahead begin to pile up.
Your body may feel tense.
Your chest tight.
Your thoughts fast and overwhelming.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Morning anxiety is actually very common. When we wake up, our nervous system is naturally more sensitive as the body shifts from rest into activity. Stress hormones like cortisol are also naturally higher in the morning.
But there’s good news: you can gently reset your nervous system before the day fully begins.
One simple and effective way to do this is EFT tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques) — a technique that combines focused awareness with tapping on specific acupressure points to calm the body’s stress response.
If you’re new to tapping, you may want to begin with my How to Tap guide, where I explain the tapping points step by step.
For now, let’s try a short practice you can use whenever morning anxiety appears.
Morning Anxiety Tapping Script
Before you begin, pause for a moment.
Take a slow breath and notice how strong your anxiety feels right now.
Rate it from 0 to 10.
Then begin tapping.
1. Setup Statement (Side of the Hand)
Tap the side of your hand and repeat three times:
Even though I feel anxious about the day ahead, I deeply and completely accept how I feel.
Or:
Even though my mind is already worrying about today, I choose to meet myself with compassion.
2. Tapping Round: Acknowledging the Anxiety
Tap about 5–7 times on each point.
Top of Head: All this morning anxiety
Eyebrow: My mind is already racing
Side of Eye: So many things to think about
Under Eye: It feels overwhelming
Under Nose: What if today is too much?
Chin: I feel this tension in my body
Collarbone: My nervous system feels on edge
Under Arm: All this worry about the day ahead
Take a slow breath.
Notice what you're feeling now.
3. Tapping Round: Inviting Calm
Now gently shift the focus.
Top of Head: Maybe I can take this day one step at a time
Eyebrow: I don’t have to solve everything right now
Side of Eye: I’m allowed to start my day with ease
Under Eye: My body can begin to relax
Under Nose: I can take one breath
Chin: And another
Collarbone: I’m giving my nervous system permission to settle
Under Arm: Maybe today can unfold more gently than I expect
Take another deep breath.
Check your anxiety level again from 0–10.
Even a small shift means your nervous system is already beginning to calm down.
You can repeat the tapping for another round if you’d like.
A Simple Morning Practice
If mornings tend to feel anxious for you, try this small routine:
- Sit somewhere comfortable and take two slow, deep breaths.
- Do one or two rounds of tapping.
- Ask yourself:
What is the one thing I can focus on first today?
You don’t need to solve the whole day.
Just the next small step.
Final Thoughts
Morning anxiety can make the day feel overwhelming before it even begins.
But with gentle tools like EFT tapping, you can create space for calm, clarity, and steadiness — right from the start.
Each time you tap, you're reminding your nervous system that it’s safe to calm down.
And over time, those small moments of calm can transform the way your mornings feel.
One breath.
One choice.
One tap at a time.
